The first step to article submissions is finding a good article directory to submit your articles to. Although there are many directories listed on the internet, the majority are not worth your time submitting to. A lot of directories have been abandoned, and others can take months to publish your article if it is accepted. Most directories will not promote your article in any way once it has been published.

Most directories allow links in the author bio box, but again the number and format of the link varies between directories. Usually the author is allowed two links in the bio, but it can vary between one and three.

When considering how to enter an article it is best to either write the article in the directory editor, or to use a simple text type pad to copy your pre-written article from. The reason being that Word and other rich text editors often ad strange symbols to your article when you cut and paste from them. Some directories will have a special button to click when pasting an article written in Word format and the special characters will be striped automatically.

Once your article is uploaded and you have filled in any other boxes such as author bio and keywords (the words that you want your article to be found for in the search engines) then you are ready to hit the publish button. Depending on the directory that you are submitting to your article may be uploaded instantly, or you may have to wait for someone at the directory to manually check and upload it for you. This process can take weeks or even months if the directory owner only uploads articles part time.
